Frozen Lemon Dessert for Citrus #SundaySupper

34 comments:

I'm allergic to chocolate.

A baker allergic to chocolate? Say it isn't so.

I'm also allergic to soy, nuts, and just about everything orange, well, except oranges themselves.

But, back to the Chocolate.

You see, I've lived most of my life convincing myself that Skittles were as good as Kit Kats and Starburst, even better than Twix.  But on Easter, nothing could compare with chocolate bunnies, right?

Well, this year Easter falls on the 31st, and shares the day with National Oranges and Lemons day... hurray!  So our theme of the day is Citrus, and believe me, these Sunday Supper recipes will get you puckering up!

And mine?  I dug deep in the old recipe files for this one.

My Mom used to serve this Frozen Lemon Dessert for dinner parties, smart, as this is a perfect do ahead dessert.  And I'll never forget me sneaking into the kitchen whispering to my Mom as she was clearing the dishes, asking "are they done, yet?" so I could help myself to whatever was left in the pan.

Honey Panna Cotta with Grand Marnier Mixed Berries and Easter Bunnies for #SundaySupper

When it comes to Easter baskets, candy is always nice... especially if it's See's Candy.

But it's the bunnies that make me smile the most.

First, the Beatrix Potter stuffed bunnies, early on.

(not quite so photogenic back then)

Then my real-life bunny for Easter in my Junior High years.

Yes, I had a rabbit for 4-H, and I named him Satin.  But, when I filled out his showing papers I mistakenly put Satan.  He was not a good bunny.  It stuck.

Twice Baked Pot Roast Potatoes... and the Secret to a Man's Heart

No comments:
So, what's the secret?

"Make him a pot roast," said my Mom.

The pot roast is the I Ching. The pot roast is the sum of all wisdom. The pot roast is the answer to any question.

What should I pack for my summer vacation?

Leave the gun, take the pot roast.

What day of the week is it?

It's Pot Roast Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Wednesday...

(this message has been approved by the movie You've got Mail)

But seriously, this one just might take my Mother... and the Godfather to figure out, but I'll give it a go.

If you want to land a man, make him a pot roast.

Shrimp and Leek Swiss Cheesy Quiche for Springtime #SundaySupper

50 comments:

Spring has Sprung...

along with the pale pink buds on the trees lining my street.  Those darn near impossible to resist chocolate filled eggs, teasing me at the check out line... and the Claritin boxes stacked in my medicine cabinet, preparing for a long, hard fight.

Convertible top down, patio door open, and OMGoodness, I didn't realize just how white my legs have gotten... where are you Summer?

Well, until Summer, I promise to embrace every moment of Spring.  A time that reminds of bunnies and puppies and white patent leather shoes and Easter bonnets (join me in a revival?) And don't forget quiche.

So, this is a special quiche.  A quiche, that since I'm now (well) past the Spring of my life, I can pretty much say is my favorite quiche.  Ever.  And that's saying a lot from a former Innkeeper.

And while this quiche was perfect before, I couldn't help resist adding a few tweaks since my B&B years.  And now it is phenomenal.

Yes, phenomenal.

I don't say that often- heck, I could barely spell it.

Just phenomenal (yea, just try saying that one 10 times in a row!)

Phenomenal.  Phenomenal.  Phenomenal...

See? Now you have to try this quiche.

Whoever said you can't buy happiness...

hasn't been to Atlantis.

Blue skies, warm waters, free food and drinks.

So, my man won a trip.  A trip to Atlantis?  Yup.  At year 10 he got a pen, and at year 15... a watch.  But that year, as a top producer, is when the magic happened.  And a group of our friends, plus about 500 other people from his company had the trip of our lives.

Best food I've ever had... and did I tell you about the drinks?  They had tiki bars set up around the resort all day and night, just for our group.  We're not big drinkers, but even as a legal adult, it felt like I was 16 all over again, sneaking in some wine coolers to our beach party.

And did I tell you that the resort was on the beach?  And that there was an aquarium built in, complete with (big) sharks?  And that our room had a plasma TV, back when plasma TVs were about the price of a BMW?

Kickin' Tequila Shrimp for #SundaySupper with Steamy Kitchen

23 comments:

I'll admit, I've been star-struck more than a few times.

The time I stood within a foot from Alan Thicke as an extra on one of my favorite Growing Pains episodes.  "Maggie's Dream" and my best friend and I as biker chicks in leather skirts and black nail polish... way before Chanel made it popular.  I love you Kirk Cameron!

At 8, when Darth Vader signed my autograph book, even though I pretended that Star Wars was so lame and would never catch on... in future movies or in how to breathe in yoga.

And who could forget when I saw JJ on Sunset Blvd.  Ok, so I think it was JJ... Good Times, though.

But these days it's the Foodie stars that have me trading in my Clooney celebrity crushes for Colicchio-like culinary crushes.

And this week #SundaySupper gets our own Celebrity Chef!  I'm so excited, as I've been following her for a few years, even before I was a food blogger.  And she is awesome!  Healthy Asian favorites that are full of flavor and perfect for everyday meals and dinner parties alike.

So, check out the recipe below from her new book, and a few (like mine) from her blog.

Only in the South White Chicken Enchilada Casserole

No comments:

I was 27, and it was my first trip to the South.

My folks retired from what I still think of as Heaven on Earth, Santa Barbara, CA, to where the retirement magazines listed as one of the "top three places to retire"... Hendersonville, NC.  A city famous for it's apples, the home of one of America's Next Top Model contestants, and Hot Dog World.

And like with any 27 year old, who thought they knew everything, and that life couldn't possibly exist outside of a California beach...

this Valley Girl got some Southern Schooling that year.

I learned that the maintenance guys giggling as I got off the plane, weren't laughing at me, but at the fact that I was wearing a red polka-dotted short sleeved mini skirt romper (with white tennies) in the dead of Winter.  Yes, it was here, that I learned the true meaning of cold.

Sour Cream Chocolate Chip Cake and Showtunes #SundaySupper

"You're never fully dressed without a smile," sang Annie, in one of my favorite musicals of all time.

An idealist, and one of those glass half-full types.

My kind of girl.

But when you think about it, it's not just our facial expressions that can change our day...and the mood of everyone around us.

There's something to be said about accessories.  The perfect purse to match your shoes (yes, the bigger the purse the thinner you look!)  A theme song that you play on the mornings that you just can't get motivated to work out.  Or maybe a special tea cup, that warms your hands on cold mornings, holds your ice cream when you need some foodie love, or even overflows with lo mein noodles on those nights when you forgot to start the dishwasher.
