{Video} Vegan Cuts January 2015 Review- You've Got to Check out This Snack Box

One of my top healthy eating tips, is to surround yourself with whole foods that can be easily prepared.  That and, if you're going to eat a snack, you might as well eat a healthy one that doesn't taste like cardboard... no rice cakes allowed.

So, these last few months I've done really great with my eating.  I've made a weekly meal plan and saved a ton of money by cooking three meals a day at home.  And I made sure that when I do get some cravings coming on, I have some healthier options close at hand, which was so much easier, thanks to this month's Vegan Cuts snack box.

Vegan Cuts contacted me and asked if I'd like to receive a box to review, and I immediately said yes.  I'd seen many past unboxings and reviews, and knew this company had some of the best food out there... all of it 100% vegan, and mostly gluten-free.  And after opening the box and trying some of the products, I can confidently say that this box is a keeper.

I love that they include so many different options, from chips to bars, to even superfruits that make a nice tea. And it was even more exciting to find that only 1 of the products had nuts (which is rare to find, as so many vegan products out there include nuts these days, and I was thrilled, since I'm allergic).

I was also really impressed that I got some sample packs of protein powder and supplements powder.  One of the things that's most difficult about eating clean and healthy is the cost.  And by being able to try these products before having to buy a full size of it, is a huge savings.  Plus, you never know what you're going to get each month, and how fun is that?

Finally, I think Vegan Cuts is awesome because it promotes other companies that (in my book) do the right thing, by using premium ingredients, concern themselves with our healthy, and follow their dreams and passions for the greater good (which is especially seen in Sant, the superfruit beverage).

So, let me show you what I got...

ProTings- Very interesting texture and taste. Upon opening them, I could smell the chili. They look almost like a Dorito, with the red chili powder, but dotted with flax seeds. When I bit into one, it had a nice crunch, and I immediately tasted the chili.  A few seconds later, a nice lime flavor came through. These crisps were a bit spicy for me, but for someone who likes the heat, and wants a flavorful and healthier snack full of protein, these just might be perfect for you.  And, I saw on their website that they have a sea salt variety, which I'll look for in the future.

Rosemary Baked Lentil Chips- Ok, these are really different... crunchy, but with an awesome puffy lightness and texture somewhere in between a rice cake, and Cheetos (ok, I'm in love).  The rosemary was evident as I opened the pack and took a smell... which is fine for the (part) Italian in me. And the flavor was enjoyable, and not too overpowering.  I was impressed with the nice balance of flavor, without it being too overwhelming or salty. Really loved this one, and will be buying more.  I can especially see these being great with hummus or other delicious dips, plus good to serve at a party.

King Soba Organic Black Rice Ramen- I didn't get to try a recipe with this, but I have it on my meal plan this week, so I'll make sure and either put a picture and review up on my instagram, or as a post on here if I come up with an awesome recipe. I think I was the most excited about this, as I'm a ramen fan, but seriously... using black rice? In love already.

Munk Pack Blueberry Acai Flax Oatmeal Fruit Squeeze- This is such a cute package, and I've always wanted to try a drink with one of these cute twist tops.  So, I'm a little torn.  Your brain almost wants you to think it's a drink, but it's very thick and grainy with the oatmeal. Makes sense, as that is what it is! The blueberry hits you right away, but then I tasted a slight bitterness, which I'm thinking is from the acai.  And after I tried it a few more times, I started to enjoy it more, but I think I'm still an old fashioned gal that prefers her oatmeal out of a bowl, with a spoon.  Great concept on the go, though.  I can see this being a great pick me up when your out on the trail, or on a road trip.  Another perk was that you can close the top back up tightly in case of leftovers.

Athletic Greens- These are really cool.  I love that you get up to 12 servings of fruits and vegetables in one serving.  And yup, the ingredients are phenomenal, with spirulina as the first ingredient.  I was also really excited to see a ton of other beneficial foods like wheatgrass, alfalfa, beet root, broccoli and even green tea.  With most supplements, I think you'd need to try them for an extended period of time to really be able to review the benefits.  But, this looks like it might be worth a try.  The only hesitation I have is that before you even learn how much it is, or get to ordering info, you have to provide your info, including your address (which is always a turn off to me). But, if I'm missing something, and you see how much this costs, let me know in the comments. All in all it looks like a really great product.

Manitoba Harvest- Can I just say YAY?! Ok, so I really enjoyed it.  I tried the vanilla flavor in my oatmeal, and it worked well with my regular mix of chia seeds and manuka honey.  I haven't tried protein powder before, so I don't have much to compare it with.  But, I love that this is made of ingredients that I'm not allergic to, plus are super healthy.  In the future, I'll be excited to see how it works with smoothies.

Bob's Red Mill Apple Blueberry Granola- I was really excited to try this, as I'm a granola lover.  And, it didn't disappoint. I love that it is just sweet enough, and how cool are those dried apple pieces in there?  I tried this plain, and I am excited to try it hot as a cereal, and also sprinkled over my fruit and yogurt in the future.  I really liked the larger chunky pieces, plus the nice mild taste of blueberry after a few crunches.  Another great Bob's Red Mill product.

Sant Superfruit Beverage- OK, can I just say I love everything about Sant?  Well, I do.  I love the flavor (I added a bit of manuka honey for a touch of sweetness). I love that you can enjoy it hot or cold, or you can even eat the fruit after it has been infused.  I love that it's from India, and has an amazing story behind it.  And I love that it's reasonably priced, and a product built on passion and a dream.

Go Raw Apricot Bar- Tearing open the package, I was hit with a lovely smell of Apricot. And then taking a bite, I was surprised at the texture, and went back in for more.  It has a nice thickness thanks to the sprouted flax seed, almost as if you layered a ton of fruit leathers on top of each other, with the addition of a ton of seeds.  I like it.  I really like it.  And again, so grateful it was nut-free.  I will be finding this and buying it.  Clean, whole food ingredients, that are RAW... and it tastes good.

RAWR Bar Very Berry Kale- This packaging gets the cutest packaging award, but how did it taste?  So, I opened the package, and there were two thin rectangular pieces inside.  I wasn't sure on the kale portion of it, but the first thing that hit me was the berry flavor.  An intense berry flavor, with the texture of an actual fruit leather.  You know, like the kind we used to unroll off the plastic and wrap around our finger.  And as I sit here, after taking several bites, it's the smell that gets me.  Deja vu, for sure, back to me riding my pink flowered banana seat bike in my bell bottom pants with my 5 best friends in our neighborhood.  Not totally sure on the other flavors they have like Sweet Potato, Squash and Beet... but this Very Berry Kale is berry, berry good.

Skout Chocolate and Coconut Bar- According to my husband- Good flavor, filling, a great bar that I'd buy again (yes, he's a man of few words, unlike me :-)

*******

All in all, I couldn't be more happy with this box.  I feel it is well worth the $19.95 price (I estimate the value at $29.95 + shipping), and all of the products were great healthy snack options to supplement your whole foods diet.
